Pleasure Dome Theatre are planning to stage Shakespeare’s magical comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the breath-taking Valley of Rocks from the 27th of July til the 7th of August and to realise our ambitious plans we will definitely need some help to do it.
We will be holding open auditions on the 9th of May at 2:00 pm at Lynton Town Hall to find local performers who would like to be a part of this production. In this informal work-shop style audition we will do some text work, some physical work, and some music from the show. We hope that it should be a fun and enjoyable way into our process and as much an opportunity for prospective performers to see whether this is a project, they’d like to be part of, as it is to help us cast.
You must have good availability in the evenings of the 24th and 25th then during the days of the 26th and 27th of June, then be able to attend the cast read-through on the evening of the 1st of July, and finally good availability from the 19th of July including the evenings for the shows from the 27th til the 7th August. There is also a possibility that we will perform at another venue. All these dates are currently provisional. And we may need to be flexible if government guidelines change. If you are really enthusiastic about working with us we will do our utmost to facilitate any obligations you might have. Working at the Valley of Rocks is tiring but we hope to provide a valuable and exciting experience as well.
“From the moment I stepped into the audition room, I knew I wanted to be a part of the production. Scott and Helena made everyone feel equally at home in the auditions, the rehearsal room, and on the stage. Being a part of a professional company, you definitely have to know what you are doing as an actor but Scott and Helena are maestros in their art and able to draw the best from community cast members and pros alike. They take any self-doubt you may have and replace it with confidence, they remove fear and replace it with the desire to deliver your absolute best and reward the audiences with epic theatre.” Nayomie Lorna Doone 150 cast member.
